Spring 2024 is just around the corner and everyone is looking forward to the new season. All of the Green Maintenance team are working now to bring the green out from its dormant state into a fine playing condition. It's looking good for this time of year but we could do with some drier conditions that's for sure.
This season we have entered two more teams in the Lincolnshire Area Bowls League in order to accommodate the very welcome increase in club membership from last year.
We held our AGM in November 2023 where the membership were informed that the club is enjoying good membership levels and is running on a sustainable financial basis, all of which is good news for the club's future! A new Committee was elected with Keith Pacey becoming the President (for the second time!), Chris Cullen continues as Club Chairman and Julie Cullen staying on as Club Secretary. John Willcock completed his term as Club President and continues as a Committee member. Good continuity was maintained as many of the Committee members were re-elected to serve again for 2023/24. Brian Ridpath joins us as a new Committee member.
One of our new members, Quentin Dixon, came up with the novel idea of "Newbies" Vs "Oldies" friendly competition to close the season. A "politically correct" amendment was made and the "Seasoned Club Members" team was born! To qualify for the Newbies team, the members must to have joined in the last two years. The competition was held on Saturday 16th September, and was won by the Seasoned Players but not without some stiff opposition. A good time has had by all and the picture shows the Seasoned Members Captain on the day, Aubrey Waller, receiving the winners trophy very kindly donated by Quentin.
Finalists for the Patteson Trophy - Paul and Jackie Ray, and Graham Doughty and Julie Rogers
A new page has been added to the HBC website (Upcoming Events). This page will describe the upcoming club events that may be of interest to everyone.

Quite literally!! Our social Committee organised a night out at the Owlerton Greyhound Racing Stadium in Sheffield. I don't think any great fortunes were made but everyone who went had a great time with some exciting races, a chicken strip supper and few wins here and there. Many thanks to Chris Lockley for the organisation.

Yesterday, Sunday 15th August, HBC welcomed a team from Perkins Retirees BC to take part in the annual friendly match. This event is firmly established in the HBC calendar. The game was played in a great spirit of friendly competitiveness with HBC running out the eventual winners but as is the norm with this event, John Willcock (HBC President) declared the result a draw.
On Sunday 21st July, HBC played hosts to a friendly match between Lincolnshire Vice Presidents and the Lincolnshire Bowling Association. The weather was kind on the day with only a light shower. LBA emerged the victors but everyone enjoyed the day which started with bacon butties and ended with a delicious salad meal in the clubhouse. HBC thanks everyone who helped on the day
